Especially good is the History of Dalton which includes much about the general Furness area. The Furness Railway Trust: Another site well worth visiting, even if you have no interest in preserving old brown steam engines! An excellent history section describes how the growth of the railway in the 19th Century connected the slate quarries in Kirkby with the rest of Furness.
