Church LifeWe are a small, friendly congregation that meets every Sunday for worship. At present we have no organist but music in a variety of forms is supplied by our minister and visiting local preachers. Our pattern of Sunday worship is variable and the congregation is always willing to take an active part in the services. Ecumenical Activities: On the fifth Sunday in the month a joint service is held at St. Cuthbert’s, the village’s Anglican Church. On Advent Sunday we also join together for a candlelight celebration. The Methodist Covenant Service is celebrated with the St Cuthbert’s congregation during January. Visitors are always welcome and we particularly invite our ecumenical and local friends to our Summer Songs of Praise and Harvest Service. Each year we take part in ecumenical Lent Study, culminating in a Lent Lunch on Palm Sunday. Christian Children's work in the village is based on Tuesday Club which is financed by and whose leaders are drawn from all the Kirkby Churches. We contribute to the "Kirkby Caller", the monthly Parish newsletter that is edited by the Vicar and distributed to all houses in the village. Circuit: We are situated in the geographical centre of the South West Cumbria Circuit and our chapel is regularly used as a convenient venue for a variety of circuit meetings. The congregation takes part in the Circuit Services that take place four times a year. Plant and Produce: Each May we hold a Plant and Produce Sale that has become very popular in the village. A large number of summer bedding plants, shrubs and perennials, together with an impressive variety of homemade cakes and jams are available to buy. The money raised is put towards our renovation programme. For a couple of photos of the preparation of the hall for the Plant and Produce Sale please click here |
